About Hard To Find Whisky

Hard To Find Whisky is one of the UK's leading independent online and retail spirits specialists, supplying customers throughout the UK and internationally. We stock thousands of premium and rare whiskies, rums, tequilas, cognacs, armagnacs, gins and other fine spirits, ranging from everyday favourites to some of the world's most sought-after collectible bottles.

We are looking for a Luxury Spirits Specialist & Store Manager to become the public face of our Birmingham retail store and an ambassador for the Hard To Find Whisky brand. This is a unique opportunity for somebody with genuine drinks industry expertise to build a long-term career within a growing and well-established premium spirits business.

The ideal candidate may currently be a luxury bar manager, senior bartender, whisky specialist, spirits ambassador, hotel beverage manager or specialist drinks retailer looking to leave behind evenings, weekends and hospitality hours whilst remaining in the premium drinks industry.

This role is about far more than opening and closing a shop. We are looking for somebody who can build customer relationships, host tastings and events, share their knowledge and help make Hard To Find Whisky a destination for spirits enthusiasts and collectors.

The successful candidate will be trusted to represent our brand, develop relationships with customers and suppliers, and help create memorable experiences that keep customers returning time and again.

The Role

You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of our retail store, helping customers discover exceptional products and delivering a first-class customer experience. You will become the in-store expert on our products, helping everyone from first-time buyers looking for a gift through to serious collectors and enthusiasts purchasing rare and high-value bottles. You will play an important role in driving retail sales, building long-term customer relationships and helping grow the reputation of Hard To Find Whisky as a destination for premium spirits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the day-to-day operation of the retail store.
  • Providing expert advice on whisky, rum, tequila, cognac, armagnac, gin and other premium spirits.
  • Assisting customers with purchases ranging from everyday drinking bottles through to rare and collectible spirits.
  • Building strong relationships with customers and encouraging repeat business.
  • Maintaining exceptional store presentation and merchandising standards.
  • Organising and hosting tastings, customer events and supplier-led experiences.
  • Processing in-store sales and customer orders.
  • Assisting with occasional social media, video content and promotional activities.
  • Representing the Hard To Find Whisky brand professionally at all times.

Essential Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of premium spirits.
  • Previous experience working in a luxury bar, premium hospitality environment, specialist drinks retailer or similar customer-facing role.
  • Passion for whisky and fine spirits.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence speaking with customers at all levels of knowledge and experience.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Professional appearance and attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of the store.
  • A genuine desire to provide exceptional customer experiences.
  • A confident and enthusiastic personality with a genuine passion for the drinks industry.

Desirable

  • WSET qualifications or equivalent drinks industry qualifications.
  • Experience running tastings, masterclasses or customer events.
  • Existing drinks industry contacts.
  • Experience creating social media or video content.
  • Knowledge of collectible and rare spirits markets.

Who This Role Would Suit

This role would suit an experienced luxury bar manager, senior bartender, whisky specialist, spirits ambassador, hotel beverage manager or specialist drinks retailer who wants to continue working with premium spirits whilst enjoying a significantly better work-life balance. If you are passionate about premium spirits and want to continue working in the industry without the unsociable hours of hospitality, we'd love to hear from you.
