Its work spans health information, direct services and research, with a growing focus on reaching people digitally at the moments they need help most, including late at night, in hospital corridors, and at diagnosis.### The roleThis is one of the first three roles in a brand-new UX team, sitting alongside a service designer and a user researcher, all reporting to the Head of UX. The team is being built from scratch, so you would have a genuine say in how it operates. For the first year or so, the majority of your time would go on the Universal Offer, a new strategic goal within the services team. A smaller but growing part of the role covers fundraising, working with the supporter experience team.### What you would do* Lead on interaction design, information architecture, prototyping and the design system, from early concepts through to developer-ready detail.* Design a new information architecture for health content built around how people actually think, rather than how the organisation is structured.* Help shape a conversational AI front door that is honest about its limits and always keeps a real person within reach.* Create guided journeys for high-stakes moments such as diagnosis and the end of hospital treatment.* Design to WCAG 2.2 AA, test with assistive technology, and avoid manufactured urgency, guilt or pressure in your work.* Plan research with the user researcher and data insights manager, define measurable outcomes before starting, and actively recruit participants who are often left out.* Interrogate briefs and return with a clear question, scope, approach and timeline rather than simply executing what you are given.* Run your own workstream, facilitate workshops and critiques, and write clearly for audiences outside design.* Work closely with third-party development partners, as there is no in-house engineering team, and collaborate with clinical colleagues and people with lived experience on health information.### What they are looking for* Experience designing digital products or services in a multidisciplinary team, with a portfolio that shows your thinking process, not only finished outputs.* Strong interaction design, prototyping and information architecture skills, and experience working within or contributing to a design system.* A practical commitment to accessibility and inclusive design.* Hands-on research experience and comfort working with data, with a willingness to change direction when evidence points that way.* Ability to interrogate briefs, run your own work independently, and hold a room during workshops or critiques.* Experience working with external development partners.* Ability to advocate for users with evidence to people who outrank you, and then commit to what is decided.* Experience involving people with lived experience in research, including those typically excluded, and good judgement about when a question does not justify asking someone for their time.* Desirable: experience with conversational or AI-assisted interfaces, health or support contexts, or the charity sector.### Working arrangementsThe role is primarily based in the London office (E1 8QS). The hybrid working model allows up to 3 days per week working from home.### Pay and benefits£47,000 to £52,000 per year. A summary of staff terms, conditions and benefits is available to download from the listing. The team also offers dedicated weekly learning time and a training budget.## DetailsLocation: London, UKOn-site or remote: Hybrid (London)Salary: £47,000 - £52,000Sector: Public healthRole: UX designSeniority: GeneralOrganisation: CharityThis job is listed on the Hard Problems job board, but details come from the employer’s own listing and may have changed — always check the original posting. #J-18808-Ljbffr
