Hard Problems

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is a registered UK charity that has funded cardiovascular research for over six decades. Its mission is to help people have healthier hearts for longer, supporting those living with heart and circulatory conditions and investing in research to bring the world closer to better treatments and outcomes.

The role

BHF is undergoing a significant digital transformation, with a focus on personalised customer experiences, growing fundraising income, and improving support for people affected by heart and circulatory conditions. The UX Designer sits within the Digital Team and works closely with Digital, Marketing, Fundraising, and Engagement colleagues to design and optimise digital experiences that serve both users and the organisation's mission. The role is permanent and reports into the broader digital function.

What you would do

  • Conduct thorough user research to understand user needs, behaviours, and pain points across BHF's digital products.
  • Convert research findings into wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs, preferably using Figma.
  • Ensure all designs are inclusive and accessible to diverse user groups.
  • Monitor UX trends and apply best practices to continuously improve the user experience.
  • Visualise and present design decisions clearly to stakeholders at all levels, building buy-in for your recommendations.
  • Translate business objectives into user-centred designs that deliver measurable impact on organisational goals.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, coordinating with a wide range of stakeholders and ensuring timely delivery.

What they are looking for

  • Proven experience as a UX Designer, UI Designer, or in a similar role, with a strong portfolio of design work.
  • Hands-on experience conducting user research and discovery, and producing wireframes, prototypes, and UI designs (Figma preferred).
  • A track record of staying current with UX trends and implementing best practices.
  • Solid understanding of accessibility and inclusive design principles.
  • Ability to communicate and create buy-in for design decisions with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience translating diverse business objectives into UX insights and user-centred designs.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills, with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects across a broad portfolio.

Working arrangements

This is a hybrid role. You would split your time between home and the BHF London office, attending in person at least one day per week on average. Flexibility may be required depending on project needs. The standard working week is 35 hours.

Pay and benefits

Β£45,000 - Β£47,500 per year, plus benefits. BHF offers a range of benefits supporting wellbeing and professional development; details are available via the candidate pack.
