Granby Rose Care Home - Highgate Park, Harrogate HG1 4PA
Harbour Healthcare are recruiting for a Maintenance Assistant in Harrogate. The role involves ensuring all legal documents are completed and carrying out day-to-day maintenance on the building, services and grounds to keep the Care Centre safe and functional. You will be on call only for emergencies.
Full time – 40 hours per week.
Required Qualifications
- General maintenance knowledge or experience, such as minor electrical, plumbing or joinery work.
- Good communication skills.
- Confident team player.
- Clean driving licence and use of a car or similar vehicle.
- Willingness to receive training on current Health & Safety regulations.
- Satisfactory Police check and check against the POVA List (where applicable).
Desired Qualifications
- Understanding of central heating systems, laundry equipment and hot & cold water systems.
- Knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations.
Responsibilities
General Maintenance
- Ensure all legal documentation is completed on time.
- Report and act on any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture or equipment and any potential hazards to the Home Manager.
- Maintain the Care Centre’s exterior, including sheds, outbuildings and waste storage areas, keeping them clean and tidy.
- Clear snow, grit, and maintain driveways, paths and any areas accessed by clients, visitors or staff.
- Maintain all external gardens, flower beds and hanging baskets to a high standard.
- Clean all signs and lighting outside the Care Centre.
- Patch or touch up decoration as required to maintain the standard of the Care Centre.
- Test the fire alarm system weekly, checking call points, fire exits, door retaining devices and emergency lights as per company procedures.
- Keep ventilation units and lights clean; replace defective bulbs or diffusers.
- Test all portable appliances as specified in company procedures.
- Record water temperatures as required.
- Maintain a 'Maintenance Book' where defects are recorded and used to plan repairs or replacements.
- Assist or supervise with deliveries to the Care Centre and monitor delivered goods closely.
Communication
- Liaise with the Home Manager or delegated staff regarding maintenance work to be carried out.
- Participate in staff and client meetings as required.
Training & Development
- Attend mandatory training days and courses, on or off site, as required.
- Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
Health & Safety
- Use and store paints and varnishes only according to manufacturers’ instructions.
- Ensure any painting or varnishing work is carried out in a well-ventilated area and is safe for clients, visitors and staff.
- Report immediately to the Home Manager or Person in Charge any infectious illness or accident involving a client, colleague or yourself.
- Understand and enforce the Care Centre’s Health and Safety policy, and emergency and fire procedures.
- Promote safe working practice in the Care Centre.
