Harbour Healthcare is recruiting for a Maintenance Assistant in Bolton. Your role will include ensuring all legal documents are completed, carrying out day-to-day maintenance on the fabric of the building, its services, and grounds to ensure the Care Centre is maintained in a safe and functional order. You will also be required to be on call but only for emergencies.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications Required:
- General maintenance knowledge / experience e.g. minor electrical, plumbing, joinery work, etc.
- Good communication skills
- Confident team player
- Clean driving licence
- Use of a car or similar vehicle
- Willingness to receive training on current Health & Safety / EHO issues
- Satisfactory Police check and check against the POVA List (where applicable)
Desired:
- Understanding of central heating systems, laundry equipment, and hot & cold water systems
- Knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations
Main Responsibilities:
- General Maintenance: Ensure ALL legal documentation is completed on time. Report and action any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture/equipment, and potential hazards to the Home Manager. Maintain the Care Centre’s exterior, including sheds, outbuildings, waste areas, and external gardens. Clear snow and grit driveways, paths, and access areas. Ensure external signs and lighting are maintained. Carry out decoration touch-ups as needed. Test fire alarm systems weekly, log results, and check call points, exits, and emergency lights. Keep ventilation units and lights clean; replace defective bulbs. Test portable appliances and record water temperatures as per procedures. Maintain a Maintenance Book to record and address defects. Assist with deliveries and monitor goods.
- Communication: Liaise with Home Manager regarding maintenance work. Participate in staff and client meetings as required.
- Training & Development: Attend mandatory training sessions. Maintain professional knowledge and skills.
- Health & Safety: Use and store paints and varnishes safely. Ensure work areas are ventilated and safe. Report illnesses or accidents immediately. Implement the Care Centre’s health and safety policies. Promote safe working practices.
