We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual as a Health and Safety Officer to ensure a professional, practical and comprehensive Health and Safety advisory and support service is provided. The role will involve:
- Taking ownership for the maintenance and improvement of health and safety within the council.
- Providing advice and delivering training to managers.
- Collating and analysing data in order to produce reports and recommendations to the Corporate and Senior Management Team.
- Ensuring the Council remains compliant with current and proposed legislation relating to H&S.
- Maintaining accurate H&S records for audit and RIDDOR reporting purposes, which may include carrying out investigations as required.
- Undertaking regular site inspections of any Council workplace.
- Maintaining and writing H&S policies and procedures.
- Being responsible for arrangements of first aiders and first aider training.
The successful candidate will have:
- A NEBOSH Diploma or a degree in a relevant subject coupled with a post graduate diploma in Occupational Safety.
- Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health or eligibility for membership.
- Previous experience in a similar role and of delivering training.
- Excellent communication skills to ensure good working relationships are formed.
- Competence in MS Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
You will be a highly motivated individual who is able to use your initiative to work independently in order to solve problems and adapt quickly to changing circumstances. A flexible approach to your work is essential, and occasional work outside normal office hours may be required.
