Are you a communications professional with strong local government or public sector experience and excellent people‑management skills? We’re looking for a highly organised, proactive team leader to inspire and support our busy communications team as they help the council to inform and engage residents across the rural Harborough district.
Reporting to the Head of Communications and Customer Services, you’ll provide day‑to‑day leadership for a small, experienced multi‑disciplinary team delivering communications support for major projects and all council service areas. You’ll bring substantial experience in planning and delivering impactful communications across digital newsletters, websites, print and social media, along with expertise in consultation, branding, campaigns, internal communications and media relations, including crisis communications.
A confident, collaborative communicator, you’ll build strong relationships with colleagues at all levels, including service teams, Corporate Management Team and councillors. You’ll also be comfortable working flexibly across varied subject areas, using your initiative, managing pressure and meeting deadlines, with a solid understanding of working in a political environment.
Our council’s vision is to work with our communities to build a future for the people of Harborough district that gives them the best life chances and opportunities. The successful candidate will take a proactive approach to support the delivery of this vision with the promotion of council services and initiatives in line with the council’s priorities and helping to protect and enhance the reputation of the council.
The council has an agile working policy and the postholder will be able to work from home if they wish, with a requirement of two days a week in the office in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, including Tuesdays. This post is politically restricted.
