Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers intensive residential treatment services within a secure setting. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of youth ages 7-17 who are experiencing emotional, psychiatric and educational difficulties. In addition to our general psychiatric programs, we also offer specialty programs for youth with more serious challenges. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE®-approved and certified facility.

We are currently hiring a select group of people committed to making a difference by improving lives and helping young people prepare for adulthood. The overall responsibility of the Senior Lead Residential Counselor is to develop a therapeutic relationship with and provide appropriate guidance and supervision to children and teenagers receiving treatment.

Essential Functions

  • Implement program to help residents learn acceptable behaviors.
  • Supervise residents’ attainment of treatment goals.
  • Maintain positive normative culture.
  • Rotate every other weekend with Senior Lead Residential staff.
  • Utilize established mechanisms to enhance communication.
  • Assist in staffing needs of the facility.
  • Adhere to all supervision responsibilities related to monitoring.
  • Assist with the supervision and accountability of unit staff.
  • Ensure the coordination and completion of all documentation related to resident care.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related field with coursework in Psychology and Child and Adolescent Development preferred.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents preferred.
  • Required to rotate weekends with Senior Lead staff.
  • Previous experience working in a residential or psychiatric setting with children and adolescents preferred.
  • Requires ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
