Harbor is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Team Lead – Business Intelligence to join our Financial Systems consulting team. This role combines people leadership with hands‑on delivery, managing a team of BI Developers while actively contributing to client‑facing engagements. The Team Lead will play a critical role in delivering high‑quality financial reporting, analytics, and data‑driven insights for our law firm clients. This individual will ensure strong alignment between client needs, internal standards, and technical best practices, while fostering a collaborative and high‑performance team environment.
This is a full‑time, fully remote position that can be based anywhere in the United States, United Kingdom or Canada. The Team Lead – Business Intelligence is responsible for leading a team of four BI Developers, balancing approximately 20% leadership responsibilities with 80% hands‑on delivery and client utilization. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in law firm financial systems, reporting frameworks, and BI tools, along with proven leadership experience. This role requires a strong combination of technical capability, client engagement skills, and team management.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four Business Intelligence Developers
- Assign, prioritize, and monitor workloads to ensure timely delivery of high‑quality outputs
- Conduct performance management activities, including coaching, feedback, and evaluations
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high‑performing team culture
- Act as a hands‑on contributor across BI projects, including report development, dashboard creation, semantic/tabular model design, and DAX measure development
- Partner with clients and internal stakeholders to gather, refine, and translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Deliver high‑quality reporting and analytics solutions tailored to law firm operational needs
- Ensure adherence to BI development standards, data governance practices, and documentation requirements
- Design and develop reporting solutions for key law firm financial metrics, including: Revenue, profitability, and realization; Billing, collections, and Work in Progress (WIP); Timekeeper performance and utilization
- Translate complex financial and operational data into clear, actionable, well‑designed reports and dashboards
- Improve reporting efficiency through automation and optimized data models
- Provide guidance on BI tools and technologies (e.g., Power BI, Fabric, SQL, data lakes)
- Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across all reporting solutions
- Review and validate deliverables produced by team members
- Support best practices in semantic/tabular modeling, DAX, performance tuning, and solution design
- Identify opportunities to enhance reporting frameworks and analytics capabilities
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the BI function
- Stay current with emerging BI tools, trends, and law firm industry practices
- 7+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience leading or managing technical teams
- Proven experience delivering financial reporting solutions, ideally within law firms or professional services
- Strong understanding of law firm financial concepts, including billing, collections, realization, and profitability
- Demonstrated ability to balance leadership responsibilities with hands‑on delivery
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, or relevant experience
- Advanced proficiency in Power BI/Fabric, including semantic models, DAX measure development, and well‑designed reports and dashboards
- Strong SQL and dimensional data modeling expertise, with the ability to design performant, maintainable datasets for reporting and analytics
- Experience with law firm financial systems (e.g., Elite, Aderant, or similar)
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes
- Strong sense of report design, including visual aesthetics, usability, layout, and functional alignment with business workflows
- Familiarity with BI security concepts, including row‑level security, workspace permissions, and controlled data access
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
- Comfortable working in a client‑facing, consulting environment
- Authorized to work in country of residence without restriction or sponsorship
