Labcorp is seeking a skilled Veterinary Associate to join the Department of Animal Welfare and Veterinary Services at our site in Harrogate. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a collaborative environment where you can make a significant impact to human and animal health. We are open to applicants with diverse backgrounds, including Registered Veterinary Nurses, experienced Animal Technicians or other health professionals with relevant experience and a desire to learn about laboratory animals.

The post holder will perform veterinary laboratory procedures as well as undertake administrative responsibilities within the department. This is a full time, permanent position.

Perform animal care activities including animal rechecks, animal treatments, physical examination, dental cleanings, anesthesia, and aseptic surgical prep) as directed by veterinarian.

Liaise with Animal House Operations staff and coordinate the treatment of routine and urgent clinical cases.

Schedule Veterinary team activities (e.g. ophthalmologic exams, physical exams, study exams, surgery and the main schedule)

Perform anesthesia for surgeries required for clinical or study purposes

Report any potential animal welfare concerns and become involved in resolution and appropriate corrective action, when necessary in accordance with veterinary recommendations and SOPs

Responsible for the coordination of collecting diagnostic or animal health monitoring samples (e.g. blood, fecal samples, etc.) and shipping to the appropriate labs

Other duties as required

Experience/Education required:

Vet nurse, experienced animal technician or other healthcare professional with relevant veterinary experience

Ideally you will have a familiarity with Animals (Scientific) Procedures Act 1986 and experience working small and large animal species used in research environment

Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals

A home office personal licence would be preferred, however this is not essential.

This role comes with a full CPD package and opportunities for additional training and development, based on the relevant research projects.
