About Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful: Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful is an innovative charity dedicated to improving and protecting our environment and communities. Through a range of certification programmes and community initiatives, we empower positive environmental action across Northern Ireland.
About the Role: As a Local Environmental Quality Officer, you'll play a key role in delivering hands-on support and growing participation in certification programmes including Green Flag, Blue Flag, and Seaside Awards. You'll engage directly with local councils, community groups, and landowners to promote environmental excellence and community involvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Programme Support: Assist in the delivery of environmental certification programmes, ensuring high standards and timely reporting.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain productive relationships with local council representatives, community groups, and volunteers to enhance participation in award schemes.
- Survey Coordination: Schedule and coordinate surveys, including Marine Litter Surveys and Cleaner Neighbourhood Surveys, managing accurate data collection and records.
- Community Engagement: Facilitate community events, beach cleans, and engagement activities to drive local participation in environmental initiatives.
- Administrative Duties: Provide administrative support for LEQ programmes and annual award ceremonies, maintaining meticulous records and communications.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Essential: Relevant third-level qualification or at least two years' equivalent experience; one year in project/programme delivery, data gathering/reporting, and stakeholder management.
- Desirable: Previous experience in the environmental sector or knowledge of biodiversity, marine conservation, or environmental management.
Skills: Good literacy and IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
Licence: Full current driving licence and access to suitable transport.
Knowledge & Understanding:
- Essential: Understanding of environmental issues or community-based approaches to behaviour change.
Personal Qualities: Flexibility, innovation, and strong problem-solving skills. Confident communicator, able to build relationships across diverse stakeholder groups. Comfortable working outdoors in various locations and independently.
Additional Working Requirements: Regular travel within Northern Ireland and flexibility for occasional evening/weekend work (with time-in-lieu offered).
Hours of Business: Flexible working hours between 8am - 6pm. Core hours 10am - 4pm, Monday - Friday. Hybrid role (minimum 2 days/week Belfast office-based).
Salary: £27,030
Contract Type: Fixed-term until 31st March 2026 (subject to funding). This position is funded through the DAERA Environment Fund.
