The predicted salary is between 23900 - 30300 £ per year.

Location: Northern Ireland - flexible base with travel across NI (Multiple delivery locations including Cookstown, Magherafelt, Derry, Ballymena, Strabane and Omagh)

Salary: £13.00 - £16.50 per hour, depending on experience. Equivalent to approximately £23,900 - £30,300 per annum, based on a 35.35-hour working week.

Contract Type: Full-time, permanent (part-time opportunities may also be considered). 35.35 hours per week for full-time roles (Monday-Thursday 8:45am-5:00pm, Friday 8:45am-4:00pm).

The Role: Happy Jobs NI is representing a well-established and respected training and education provider that delivers industry-recognised qualifications across construction and skilled trades. They are expanding their delivery team and are now looking to recruit a Joinery Tutor. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Joiner, Carpenter, Bench Joiner or Site Carpenter who is passionate about passing on their skills and supporting the next generation of tradespeople. Candidates currently working as a Joinery Trainer, Carpentry Instructor, Workshop Supervisor or Apprenticeship Mentor are encouraged to apply. You don’t need to be an experienced tutor to apply; however, previous experience as a tutor, trainer or assessor would be highly desirable.

The role involves delivering practical and theory-based training and assessment for joinery and carpentry qualifications from Level 1 to Level 3, including supporting learners on funded apprenticeship programmes. You will play a key role in the delivery and ongoing support of apprentices and the apprenticeship scheme, working closely with employers to ensure learners progress successfully. Delivery will take place within training centres, workshop environments and employer premises, using a blend of practical, classroom and workplace-based learning. Travel across Northern Ireland is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver practical and theoretical training in joinery and carpentry-related vocational qualifications.
  • Deliver and support apprenticeship programmes, acting as a key point of contact for apprentices and employers.
  • Provide hands-on demonstrations and one-to-one guidance to develop learners' technical skills.
  • Deliver classroom-based, workshop-based and workplace-based training and assessment.
  • Assess learners' skills and knowledge, providing constructive feedback to support progression.
  • Monitor learner and apprentice progress in line with qualification and apprenticeship framework requirements.
  • Support learners in compiling and completing portfolios of evidence to awarding body standards.
  • Develop, implement and review individual learning plans tailored to varying abilities and learning needs.
  • Maintain accurate assessment paperwork, learner records and monitoring documentation.
  • Act as an academic and pastoral point of contact for learners.
  • Undertake additional duties appropriate to the level of responsibility of the role.

Person Specification / About You:

Essential:

  • Occupational background as a Joiner or Carpenter (bench, site or workshop-based).
  • Relevant qualification in joinery, carpentry or a related trade, or significant industry experience.
  • Strong practical knowledge of joinery techniques, tools, materials and health & safety standards.
  • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.
  • Experience mentoring, training or supervising others.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider team.
  • Flexible approach with a willingness to travel across Northern Ireland.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Assessor qualification (D33 / A1 / Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement).
  • Teaching or training qualification (Level 4 Teaching Certificate, PGCE or equivalent).
  • Experience delivering apprenticeships, NVQs or vocational qualifications.
  • Confident using ICT systems for learner tracking and administration.
