About the Role

As a Climate Action Officer, you\’ll oversee and deliver training programmes designed to raise awareness and drive meaningful action against climate change within education and community sectors. You\’ll build and nurture networks within schools, colleges, and community organisations, actively supporting and motivating them to engage in sustainability initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Programme Delivery: Deliver impactful climate change training to primary and post-primary schools, regional colleges, universities, and community groups.
  • Network Development: Build and maintain robust relationships within the education sector, enhancing programme participation and effectiveness.
  • Content Development: Co-design and adapt training programmes tailored to diverse audience needs, ensuring relevance and engagement.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to maximise programme uptake and achieve project milestones.
  • Ambassadorship: Act as a representative and advocate for environmental action, promoting resources like the myEARTH website.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential: Teaching qualification with at least two years\’ school-based teaching experience or relevant degree-level qualification with equivalent experience; two years\’ experience delivering complex training; established stakeholder management; project/programme development and delivery experience.
  • Desirable: Experience in community sector training, climate change or sustainability projects.
  • Skills: Excellent communication skills, creativity, and proactive approach.
  • Licence: Full current driving licence and access to transport for travel throughout Northern Ireland.

Knowledge & Understanding

  • Essential: Deep understanding of educational systems and effective training methodologies; comprehensive knowledge of climate change issues locally and globally.
  • Desirable: Existing network within educational sectors; thorough knowledge of Northern Ireland\’s specific climate issues.

Personal Qualities

  • Team player with independent initiative.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; confident in leading discussions and problem-solving.

Additional Working Requirements

  • Regular travel across Northern Ireland; occasional evening/weekend work required (time-in-lieu provided).

Hours of Business

  • Flexible hours between 8am – 6pm; core hours 10am – 4pm, Monday – Friday.
  • Hybrid role with Belfast office attendance required.

Salary

Β£26,905 per annum

Contract Type

Permanent (subject to funding)

This position is funded through the DAERA Carrier Bag Levy.
