The Role: Happy Jobs NI has been exclusively retained to manage the appointment of an experienced and ambitious Senior Quantity Surveyor on behalf of a growing specialist contractor operating within the infrastructure, civil engineering and construction sectors. This is a senior-level opportunity for an energetic, commercially focused professional who is ready to take on a broader leadership role within a growing project-led business. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting commercial performance, managing project profitability, strengthening internal systems and processes, and helping to lead and develop the wider commercial team.

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will oversee the commercial delivery of multiple projects, ensuring strong financial control, robust contract management, effective reporting and clear commercial governance. You will work closely with senior leadership, operational teams, clients and key stakeholders to support business growth and ensure projects are delivered commercially, efficiently and to a high standard.

This role may suit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor, Project Quantity Surveyor, Managing Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Lead, Senior Estimator, Contracts Commercial Manager or Commercial Manager who is ready to step into a senior management position with significant career progression opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading, supporting and developing Quantity Surveyors and commercial team members.
  • Overseeing commercial delivery across infrastructure, civil engineering and construction projects from tender stage through to final account.
  • Managing project costs, budgets, forecasting, valuations and performance monitoring.
  • Supporting profitable project delivery through effective cost control, contract management and commercial oversight.
  • Managing NEC, JCT or equivalent contracts, including change control, valuations, variations and dispute resolution.
  • Preparing and reviewing commercial reports, financial updates and project performance information.
  • Working closely with operational teams to identify commercial risks, opportunities, efficiencies and areas for improvement.
  • Supporting bids, tender submissions, pricing strategies and wider business development opportunities.
  • Reviewing and improving internal commercial systems, processes and reporting procedures.
  • Using project information, commercial data and performance reports to support better decision-making.
  • Supporting the use of project management tools to improve visibility, control and reporting across live projects.
  • Building strong working relationships with internal teams, clients, contractors and key stakeholders.
  • Providing clear commercial guidance to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, profitably and to a high standard.

Person Specification / About You:

We would welcome applications from commercially focused professionals with a background in quantity surveying, estimating, commercial management or contract leadership within infrastructure, civil engineering, specialist contracting or construction. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience in a senior quantity surveying or commercial role within infrastructure, civil engineering, specialist contracting or construction.
  • Strong people management or team leadership experience, with the ability to support, motivate and develop others.
  • An energetic, ambitious and proactive approach, with the drive to contribute at senior level.
  • Strong understanding of contract forms such as NEC, JCT or equivalent.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple contracts from tender stage through to final account.
  • Excellent commercial and financial awareness, including project budgets, cost control, forecasting, valuations and reporting.
  • A sound understanding of commercial systems, internal processes and project governance.
  • Experience using project management tools would be beneficial.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with internal teams, clients, contractors and senior stakeholders.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving, performance improvement and continuous improvement.
  • A good understanding of analysing project performance and providing meaningful commercial feedback.
  • Third-level education in a construction-relevant discipline.
