The honest version of this job: it's physical, and some days are hard. Third-floor flats with no lift, Victorian staircases, a wardrobe that only goes one way. What you won't get is seventy drops and a scanner beeping at you. You'll run one to three jobs a day with a crew, and every customer is someone having one of the more stressful weeks of their life. How you handle that is the real job, the driving is the easy part.
We're not a throw-it-in-the-back outfit. Blankets on, straps used, floors protected, inventories checked. If that's already how you work, you'll fit here.
What you'll be doing
Driving our 3.5t Luton vans safely and professionally
Packing, wrapping, protecting, loading and unloading household and commercial moves
Dismantling and reassembling furniture, and basic disconnection and reconnection of standard domestic appliances
Loading properly items secured, weight distributed, nothing moving in transit
Daily vehicle checks, reporting any damage, defects or incidents
Checking items against inventories and getting them to the right room, not just the right address
Keeping customers informed and reassured from the first knock to the last box
Staying in touch with the office through the day and working closely with your crew
What we're looking for
Full UK driving licence, held two or more years, with no more than 6 penalty points
Experience driving 3.5-tonne vehicles removals, multi-drop or similar
Professional removals experience is a strong advantage
Physically fit and able to handle regular lifting and manual handling
Good spoken English and a genuinely decent manner with customers
Reliable and punctual, and able to think on your feet when a job doesn't go to plan
Pay
£34,500 £37,000 per year depending on experience, based on an average 47.5-hour week.
Additional hours are available in busy periods and paid on top. Customer tips are kept by the crew.
Hours
Monday to Friday, starting between 6:00am and 7:00am and finishing between 4:00pm and 6:00pm depending on the job. All hours worked are paid.
Saturdays are available if you want the extra hours, but they're optional. We don't build our weeks around weekend cover, and your Monday to Friday doesn't change from week to week.
Based at our Hayes depot (UB4). Vans are kept on site, so you'll need your own transport to get to Hayes for an early start.
What you get
28 days' paid holiday including bank holidays
Workplace pension
Full uniform and PPE
Customer tips, kept by the crew
Full training in professional packing, loading, stacking and handling fragile items
A proper induction with a mentor, nobody gets handed the keys on day one
Where this goes
This isn't a job where you're doing the same thing in three years. You'll have a personal development plan and regular reviews from the start, funded industry training including BAR courses, and a clear route towards Team Leader for the right person.
We'd rather grow our own supervisors than hire them in.
