Cover Supervisor with SEN Experience

Pay Rate: £100 - £130 per day (subject to experience and qualifications). This role is during school hours.

Location: Bristol

Hours: Part-time during school hours

Hanson Recruitment is working with a large number of schools across the South-West which require teachers, teaching assistants, and cover supervisors.

/n

We are currently recruiting for a cover supervisor with experience in SEN to work in SEN settings across Bristol – both resource bases in mainstream schools and SEN schools. This role involves supervising classes during teacher absences, and ensuring students remain engaged in learning while maintaining a calm, structured, and supportive environment.

/n

Responsibilities include:

/n

/n
- To plan and deliver learning activities to children and young people, differentiating, modifying and using specialist activities and approaches according to children or young people's responses/needs
/n
- Supervise classes during the short-term absence of teachers.
/n
- Deliver pre-set work, ensuring students stay on task and complete assigned activities.
/n
- Provide targeted support for students with SEN, adapting approaches as needed.
/n
- To support students with SEN to fulfil their academic potential
/n
- To be involved in keeping records and evaluating identified students' progress
/n
- To assist with the development and implementation of support plans
/n
- To prepare students beforehand for a task, e.g. pre-teaching
/n
- To supervise practical tasks
/n
- To carry out structured classroom assessment/observation and feedback outcomes
/n
- Under the direction of appropriate professionals and after adequate training, to assist in meeting particular scholars' needs, e.g. physical development, speech/language development, and medical needs identified in an approved care plan agreed by parents
/n

Qualifications & attributes:

/n

/n
- Have previous experience working with children or young people with SEN in a school or specialist setting.
/n
- Be confident managing classroom behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies.
/n
- Show patience, empathy, and a calm, consistent approach.
/n
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
/n
- Be able to follow lesson plans and work independently.
/n
- Hold a degree
/n
- Relevant qualifications such as Team Teach, Positive Behaviour Support, or SEND training are desirable.
/n
