Heidelberg Materials UK is one of the UK’s largest suppliers of construction materials, employing over 4,000 people and operating around 300 manufacturing sites. As a key partner on the Sizewell C nuclear new‑build project, we are seeking a Senior Quality Control Technician to ensure materials meet the highest standards and to drive continuous improvement in a fast‑paced, high‑impact environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Health, Safety & Compliance – Champion a strong H&S culture aligned with NNB and Heidelberg Materials UK standards; ensure full compliance with EDF regulations and site procedures; proactively report near misses and challenge unsafe behaviours.
- Testing & Quality Control – Conduct laboratory and on‑site testing (slump, compressive strength, aggregate sampling); analyse data and ensure compliance with BS EN / ASTM standards; review and validate test results and batch tickets against specifications.
- Material Inspection – Inspect incoming materials (cement, aggregates, admixtures); monitor deliveries and report any discrepancies immediately; maintain strict quality standards across all products.
- Leadership & Mentoring – Supervise and support junior technicians; provide training, guidance, and technical expertise; foster a collaborative, high‑performance team culture.
- Reporting & Documentation – Maintain accurate test records, logs, and calibration data; produce clear reports for internal teams, contractors, and clients; raise NCRs and quality alerts where required.
- Project Collaboration – Work closely with EDF contractors, technical teams, and operations; support site investigations and material issue resolution; build strong working relationships across all stakeholders.
Essential Qualifications
- Experience in concrete, asphalt, or aggregate testing.
- Strong understanding of quality control processes and standards (BS EN / ASTM).
- Knowledge of Health & Safety and environmental compliance.
- Ability to analyse data and produce detailed reports.
- Excellent communication and team leadership skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- CSCS Card (Construction Sites).
- Triple Bar Clearance (Nuclear New Build).
- SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme).
- NVQ or relevant technical qualification.
- Level 1 Award training.
