Director Role

We are looking for a strategic and commercially driven Director to lead and grow a high-performing team within Hanover. This senior leadership role is responsible for driving sustained growth, delivering impactful client solutions, and positioning Hanover as a leader in the communications industry. The role operates across teams, markets and service areas, ensuring an integrated and forward-thinking approach to client delivery and business development. As a Director, you will provide inspirational leadership aligned with Hanover’s mission, vision and values, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration and accountability. You will play a critical role in expanding the client base, growing revenue, and identifying new business opportunities, while maintaining the highest standards of client service. You will be responsible for leading key client relationships at a senior level, providing strategic counsel, overseeing the development of high-quality communications strategies, and ensuring successful delivery across accounts. Alongside this, you will drive innovation by staying attuned to media, digital and communications trends. The role also requires a strong focus on team leadership and talent development, ensuring the team remains motivated, high-performing and equipped to deliver best-in‑class work. You will actively contribute to Hanover’s wider business strategy, collaborating across teams and geographies. You will maintain a strong focus on productivity and billability, ensuring efficient allocation of time across client work and contributing directly to revenue targets, while also supporting wider team performance in these areas.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage senior client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and escalation point for complex client issues
  • Design, sell and oversee the delivery of high-quality communications strategies informed by insight and expertise
  • Take ultimate responsibility for the success, performance and growth of key client accounts
  • Oversee and manage the team’s new business pipeline, setting strategic direction and driving delivery against targets
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities, including organic growth within existing accounts and new client acquisition
  • Build and maintain a strong external network to generate business opportunities and enhance Hanover’s market profile
  • Provide inspirational leadership, promoting Hanover’s values and fostering an inclusive, high‑performing team culture
  • Collaborate across Hanover teams and international offices to deliver integrated client solutions
  • Ensure the highest standards of quality across all client deliverables through rigorous review and oversight
  • Lead financial management for the team, including budgeting, forecasting, revenue tracking and profitability

Key Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience in communications, with a strong track record in a senior leadership role, ideally within an agency environment
  • Proven ability to lead and grow client accounts, delivering strategic counsel and high-quality service
  • Demonstrated success in driving new business, including developing pipelines and converting opportunities
  • Strong commercial acumen, with experience managing budgets, forecasting and revenue growth
  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with experience developing and mentoring senior team members
  • Deep understanding of the communications, media and digital landscape, with the ability to translate trends into client value
  • Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities
  • High attention to detail and commitment to delivering excellence in all client outputs
