Starting in September 2026, this 3-year apprenticeship role will support the Data Management team in delivering high-quality data operations, analysis, documentation, and project support for the UK Life Branch. The role develops practical skills in data analysis, engineering concepts, and translating business requirements into technical outputs. The apprentice will support the team while undertaking the Kaplan Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship.

The Apprenticeship Aims

  • Gains a clear understanding of UK Life Reinsurance data, systems, and processes.
  • Develops practical analytical and coding capability using SQL, PowerBI and Databricks.
  • Learns to translate requirements into well-structured technical outputs.
  • Contributes effectively to data quality, reporting, and operational processes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Project & Development Support
    • Work with the Data Management team to deliver on key projects for the UK Branch, including:
    • Data Onboarding and Processing System Upgrade – contribute to the programme by helping define technical requirements and the coding and testing of these in the solution.
    • Data Quality and Reporting Improvement – support development of validation rules, data quality measures, and management reporting.
    • Core Data Repository Extension – contribute to extending datasets, building metrics, and producing analytics.
    • Assist in documenting functional and technical requirements for project deliverables.
    • Participate in design discussions to understand solution architecture and contribute insights.
  • Data Quality, Analysis & BAU Activities
    • Perform standard data checks, logging issues and tracking resolution progress.
    • Assist with ingestion, validation, and processing core data sets.
    • Prepare basic reports, data extracts, and checks for actuarial and reporting teams.
  • Documentation, Governance & Controls
    • Follow best practice for data handling, quality controls, and security.
    • Help document technical and business requirements.
    • Produce and maintain process documentation, data flow diagrams, and runbooks.

About You

Qualifications Required

  • One of the following: Level 3 qualifications (A-Levels, BTEC, or equivalent) to ideally include a STEM subject.
  • 12 months of work experience in the last 24 months in a relevant role.
  • Level 3 apprenticeship.

Experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (in particular Excel using pivot tables and XLookup).

    • Basic understanding of SQL, with willingness to develop intermediate capability.
    • Interest in learning Databricks, Python and/or R (no prior experience required).

    • Basic understanding of sourcing, cleaning, analysis, and visualisation of data.
