The Data & Systems Developer will play a critical role in maintaining and modernising the Branch’s data and systems landscape, working as part of a dynamic, collaborative team at the heart of the business. The role will take ownership of the development, setup, and ongoing enhancement of local & group solutions. The position will also be responsible for the maintenance, stability, and evolution of the data and analytics estate, including Nucleus and associated reporting solutions, ensuring that the business is empowered to utilise our data.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Platform & Solution Development
    • Design, build and maintain new solutions using Databricks, R, Python and Power BI, which support users across the business.
    • Design and build processes to support the new Single Risk system.
    • Apply strong software engineering principles to structure scalable, maintainable systems and processes.
    • Support the ongoing development and maintenance of Nucleus, our data repository.
    • Contribute to architectural decisions across the data and reporting landscape.
    • Support the provisioning of data to business users.
    • Ensure reporting solutions are robust, well-governed, and aligned to business and regulatory needs.
    • Keenness to explore AI integration into our technology landscape.
  • Migration of data landscape
    • Support the retirement of our legacy technology landscape (including Nova), ensuring continuity, stability, and risk mitigation.
    • Support the ongoing maintenance of existing SSIS packages and SQL solutions.
    • Build new data processes, replacing legacy Visual Basic scripts with SQL, python or R alternatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Act as a trusted technical partner to stakeholders across the business to design, enhance, and rationalise reports and dashboards.
    • Translate business requirements into clear technical solutions and delivery plans.
    • Proactively manage timelines, expectations, dependencies, and risks.
  • Ways of Working
    • Operate as a self‑starter, effectively managing priorities, deadlines and workload.
    • Identify problems proactively and drive solutions through strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
    • Contribute to documentation, knowledge transfer and reduction of key‑person dependencies.

About You

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, ideally in a STEM subject.

Experience

  • Understanding of data, reporting, and control requirements in a regulated setting.
  • Experience working within (re)insurance or financial services environments desirable.
  • Understanding of the downstream use of seriatim data, including experience analysis, modelling and reporting.
  • A track record of developing systems and tools for end users, including documentation, robust deployment architecture and solution design.
  • Adept at communicating with a range of stakeholders to agree a scope and delivery targets.
  • Experience in data analysis and reporting – using the outputs of a data pipeline to fulfil business needs.
  • Exposure to enterprise data architecture or cloud‑based data platforms.
  • Experience supporting major transformation programmes (e.g. system replacements or new core platforms).
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets.

Skills

  • Strong coding knowledge, including R, Python and SQL.
  • Knowledge of coding best practice, including DevOps workflows, version control and CI/CD.
  • Knowledge of reporting platforms (e.g. Power BI).
  • Databricks experience desirable.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical capability.
  • Ability to work independently, manage own time and prioritise competing demands.
  • Ability to specify, design and deliver end‑to‑end solutions to a deadline.
