The Transport Planner – Dry Freight is responsible for supporting the planning and coordination of dry freight movements to ensure efficient and compliant transport operations across Northern Ireland, Great Britain, and the Republic of Ireland. The role supports the wider transport operations team through effective planning, communication, and operational coordination to maintain service levels and customer satisfaction.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operational Planning – Dry Freight
    • Assist in planning and scheduling dry freight movements efficiently.
    • Support optimisation of vehicle, trailer, and driver utilisation.
    • Monitor daily transport operations and communicate operational updates where required.
    • Respond to operational issues, delays, and changes in a timely manner.
    • Ensure transport activities are completed in line with driver hours and company procedures.
  • Stakeholder Coordination
    • Liaise with drivers, warehouse teams, customers, and internal departments.
    • Communicate delivery updates and operational information accurately.
    • Support issue resolution and escalation of operational concerns where necessary.
    • Work collaboratively with the wider transport planning team to maintain service levels.
  • Systems & Administration
    • Maintain accurate planning and operational records using the Transport Management System (TMS), Transpas.
    • Update systems with relevant shipment and operational information.
    • Assist with KPI reporting and operational administration tasks.
    • Ensure transport documentation is completed accurately and on time.
    • Support initiatives to improve transport planning efficiency and operational performance.
    • Contribute to maintaining consistent planning processes and procedures.
    • Identify and communicate opportunities for operational improvements.

Knowledge, skills and experience required

  • Previous experience in a transport, logistics, or planning environment.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and transport systems.
  • Experience within dry freight or general haulage operations.
  • Knowledge of transport regulations and driver hours.
  • Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS).
  • Experience working across NI, GB, and ROI operations.
