The Transport Planner is responsible for the planning, coordination, and monitoring of transport movements, ensuring deliveries and collections are completed efficiently, safely, and in line with operational requirements. The role focuses on day-to-day planning activity, supporting service delivery and operational performance.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Transport Planning
- Plan and schedule transport movements in line with customer and operational requirements
- Allocate vehicles, trailers, and drivers efficiently
- Monitor live operations and respond to delays or changes
- Update transport plans to reflect operational requirements
- Stakeholder Coordination
- Communicate instructions and updates to drivers and internal teams
- Liaise with warehouse, depot, and customer service teams
- Support resolution of day-to-day operational issues
- Compliance & Accuracy
- Ensure compliance with driver hours, working time regulations, and company policies
- Maintain accurate planning and operational records
- Follow standard operating procedures and planning controls
- Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Support KPI tracking and operational reporting
- Identify opportunities to improve planning efficiency and service levels
Essential Knowledge, skills and experience required
- Experience in transport planning, logistics, or operational coordination
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Clear communication skills
- Confident using Transport Management Systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office
Desirable
- Knowledge of UK and Ireland transport networks
