The Quality Control (QC) Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all incoming materials, in-process products, and finished goods meet company quality standards, engineering drawings, customer specifications, and relevant industry requirements.
The QC Inspector will carry out inspections, record inspection results, identify non-conformances, and work closely with production and engineering teams to ensure products are manufactured Right First Time.
Key Responsibilities
- Quality Inspection
- Perform inspection and testing of incoming materials, in-process production, and finished goods in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications and quality procedures.
- Carry out visual, dimensional and functional inspections using appropriate measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, gauges, surface finish testers, CMM if applicable).
- Complete inspection records, checklists and quality documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure all products are inspected prior to despatch and released only when quality requirements have been met.
- Verify material certification, inspection reports and documentation where required.
- Quality Control Processes
- Identify, record and segregate non-conforming products and materials.
- Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs & CAIR) and support investigations into quality issues.
- Assist in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Support continuous monitoring of production quality and report recurring issues or trends.
- Ensure inspection equipment is used correctly and report any calibration issues.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate inspection records and quality documentation in accordance with ISO 9001 and company procedures.
- Ensure traceability records are completed where applicable.
- Support internal and external quality audits by providing inspection records and evidence of compliance.
- Work closely with production teams to improve product quality and reduce defects.
- Identify opportunities to improve inspection methods, quality documentation and manufacturing processes.
- Provide feedback to the QHSE Manager on recurring quality concerns.
- Additional Duties
- Assist with customer inspections and supplier quality activities as required.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.
- Key Qualifications
- Knowledge
- Previous experience in a Quality Control or Inspection role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Good understanding of engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes including fabrication, machining and assembly.
- Familiarity with quality inspection techniques and documentation.
Skills
- Competent in the use of inspection and measuring equipment including verniers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators and gauges.
- Ability to accurately read engineering drawings and tolerances.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent record keeping skills.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to identify quality concerns.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of MRP systems will be ideal (CIM50).
Qualifications
- Engineering apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC or equivalent engineering qualification preferred.
- Internal Quality Inspection or Quality Assurance training would be advantageous (ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards).
