Responsibilities

We are seeking a passionate and innovative Teacher of Design & Technology with the ability to teach across Product Design, Food Technology and Textiles, and ideally Art, to join our team at Hanham Woods Academy. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire creativity, problem-solving and practical skills through a broad and engaging curriculum. You will play a vital role in helping students develop confidence, resilience and independence through hands‑on learning experiences, while fostering a love of design, making and artistic expression. Working within a supportive and forward-thinking department, you will contribute to delivering a curriculum that is ambitious, inclusive and aligned with our commitment to high expectations and excellent outcomes for all learners.

Qualifications

  • You will be a qualified teacher (QTS/QTLS or equivalent) with strong subject knowledge in Design & Technology disciplines and ideally Art.
  • Able to plan and deliver well‑structured, high‑quality lessons that inspire creativity and ensure strong progress across key stages.
  • Passionate about practical and creative learning, with the ability to foster a safe, engaging and stimulating workshop and studio environment.
  • Able to adapt teaching to meet the needs of all learners, including pupil premium, SEND, looked‑after children and high‑attaining students.
  • Skilled in using assessment effectively to monitor progress, provide feedback and secure excellent outcomes.
  • A strong communicator who can build positive relationships with students, staff and parents, contributing to a culture of high expectations and mutual respect.
  • Committed to maintaining high standards of behaviour and creating a calm, purposeful and safe learning environment.
  • Enthusiastic about contributing to the wider life of the academy, including enrichment opportunities and extra‑curricular activities.
