Overall Job purpose: To work under the guidance of teaching / senior staff and within an agreed system of supervision, to implement agreed work programmes with individuals / groups, in or out of the classroom with the focus on Phonics. This will involve assisting the teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management / preparation of resources. Staff may also supervise whole classes occasionally during the short-term absence of teachers. The primary focus will be to maintain good order and to keep pupils on task. They need to respond to questions and generally assist pupils to undertake set activities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Support for the Pupils: Use specialist (curriculum / learning) skills / training / experience to support pupils.
- Assist with the development and implementation of IEPs.
Key Responsibilities
- Use specialist (curriculum / learning) skills / training / experience to support pupils (phonics).
- IEP Implementation: Assist in the development and delivery of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans.
- Intervention Delivery: Work flexibly with colleagues to successfully deliver planned intervention programmes.
- Cover for class teacher as necessary.
What You Bring
- Experience: Proven experience working with children of a relevant age, specifically those with significant needs and social/communication difficulties.
- Qualifications: Completion of Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant.
- Technical Knowledge: A solid understanding of the national curriculum, child development, and basic learning strategies (e.g., literacy and numeracy).
- Adaptability: The ability to work constructively within a team while self‑evaluating your own learning needs.
- Essential Skills: Good numeracy/literacy skills and the ability to use ICT and other classroom technology effectively to support learning.
