Title: Accounts Assistant
Location: London (Hybrid β 1 day WFH)
Salary: £35,000 β £45,000 + benefits
Our client, a leading professional services group operating across a diverse range of sectors, is looking for an Accounts Assistant to join their London finance team.
Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, this is a broad and varied role offering exposure across day-to-day accounting, transactional finance, payroll, banking, and financial reporting. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the wider finance function.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records across the group
- Manage the sales ledger, including raising invoices, allocating receipts, and monitoring outstanding debtors
- Manage the purchase ledger, including processing supplier invoices, payment runs, and supplier reconciliations
- Assist with credit control and proactively follow up outstanding balances
- Support the preparation and processing of payroll
- Maintain banking records, complete bank reconciliations, and assist with day-to-day banking relationships
- Prepare and submit VAT returns
- Support month-end processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist with management reporting and preparation of financial information
- Monitor cash balances and support cash flow reporting
- Liaise with suppliers, customers, banks, and internal stakeholders to resolve finance queries
- Support the Head of Finance with ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and wider finance projects
Role Requirements
- AAT qualified or studying towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent would be advantageous
- Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, or similar accounting role
- Strong bookkeeping and transactional finance experience
- Experience across accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Exposure to payroll, VAT returns, and bank reconciliations
- Good Excel skills and confidence working with accounting systems
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Proactive approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Comfortable working within a fast-paced, commercial environment
