Title: Accounts Assistant

Location: London (Hybrid – 1 day WFH)

Salary: Β£35,000 – Β£40,000 + benefits

Our client, a leading professional services group operating across a diverse range of sectors, is looking for an Accounts Assistant to join their London finance team.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, this is a broad and varied role offering exposure across day-to-day accounting, transactional finance, payroll, banking, and financial reporting. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the wider finance function.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate bookkeeping records across the group
  • Manage the sales ledger, including raising invoices, allocating receipts, and monitoring outstanding debtors
  • Manage the purchase ledger, including processing supplier invoices, payment runs, and supplier reconciliations
  • Assist with credit control and proactively follow up outstanding balances
  • Support the preparation and processing of payroll
  • Maintain banking records, complete bank reconciliations, and assist with day-to-day banking relationships
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns
  • Support month-end processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist with management reporting and preparation of financial information
  • Monitor cash balances and support cash flow reporting
  • Liaise with suppliers, customers, banks, and internal stakeholders to resolve finance queries
  • Support the Head of Finance with ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and wider finance projects

Role Requirements

  • AAT qualified or studying towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent would be advantageous
  • Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, or similar accounting role
  • Strong bookkeeping and transactional finance experience
  • Experience across accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Exposure to payroll, VAT returns, and bank reconciliations
  • Good Excel skills and confidence working with accounting systems
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Proactive approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Comfortable working within a fast-paced, commercial environment
