Handley James have been retained by a key client of ours, to confidentially source an experienced transport/fleet professional to join their senior leadership team as Fleet Manager.
Our client is an industry leading expert, part of a £multimillion, global business with sites worldwide. You will lead a team and be responsible for the fleet operations for a business unit, you will have direct responsibility for managing the operations, personnel, and the third party logistics partners, along with management and responsibility of licensing, lease vehicles, company cars and associated fuel cards etc.
The role is based around the Luton area and is working on days Monday – Friday with an expected physical presence on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with other internal departments to ensure that vehicle fleet is fit for purpose and meets the needs of the business.
- Manage a small team of drivers ensuring correct training, support and mentoring is provided.
- Continuously monitoring both the commercial and car fleet ensuring the company maximises this resource at minimum cost.
- Ensures the fleet operates in compliance to driver hours and driving regulations, operator licenses and ADR requirements.
- Perform route planning tasks and review journeys on a regular basis with the operational leadership teams to ensure optimisation.
- Ensure that new vehicles arrive with company livery, cameras and trackers as specified. Deal with leasing companies, fuel and other third party logistics providers.
- Report monthly on fleet performance, delivery schedules, missed routes etc.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience within a similar transport/fleet role with supervisor or leadership experience.
- Strong proven leadership skills.
- Exceptional IT skills including Microsoft packages (Excel) and other relevant CRM.
- Relief driving experience in the rare instances this is required.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Valid UK driving license.

In return our client is offering a salary of £35,000 – £45,000pa plus bonus and benefits.
