Finance Assistant – TV Production

Leading independent television and media production company, dedicated to creating impactful factual content for UK, US, and international broadcasters are looking for a strong Finance Assistant to join their team.

Role Overview

As Finance Assistant, you'll play a key role within our central finance team. You'll be primarily responsible for the smooth and accurate payment of suppliers across all productions and company activity, while also supporting core bookkeeping, accounts receivable, and treasury functions.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts payable

  • Manage the flow of production purchase invoices: check approvals, post into Xero, ensure accurate coding, and update weekly production cost monitors.
  • Prepare and process payment runs (weekly and monthly), including freelancer (Ltd Co. and Sch D) payments via Coutts online banking.
  • Set up new supplier accounts and liaise with suppliers and production teams.
  • Reconcile Xero to Excel cost monitors monthly to ensure accurate forward planning and forecasting.

Accounts receivable

  • Generate and issue sales invoices in Xero (primarily production funding), ensuring timely receipt of funds per contract terms.
  • Maintain and update weekly sales invoice tracking for the Managing Director.

Bookkeeping & Treasury

  • Reconcile Equals cash card transactions (production projects and central cards), post into Xero, and allocate weekly.
  • Chasing stakeholders on getting all receipts in a timely manner.
  • Monitor weekly Equals cash card fund flows.
  • Manage and reconcile petty cash floats with supporting paperwork.
  • Perform weekly bank reconciliations.
  • Allocate monthly production payroll to cost monitors, including processing inter-company cash transfers.
  • Process monthly internal cost recoveries and reimbursements between production and central bank accounts.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Part-qualified and actively working towards an accountancy qualification (ACCA/AAT/CIMA)
  • Strong transaction-processing skills with attention to accuracy.
  • Knowledge of HMRC regulations.
  • Reliable, discreet, and process-oriented.
  • Proactive in streamlining and improving systems.
  • Solid academic background.
  • 2+ years of bookkeeping experience.
  • Experience in TV, film or media companies
  • Familiar with Xero accounting software
