We are a ten doctor NHS General Practice based in Handforth, Cheshire, with a list size of approximately 10,500 patients. We are a training practice for GP trainees and FY2 doctors. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Health Care Assistant to join our dynamic and friendly team of three practice nurses and two health care assistants. Previous experience is essential and ongoing training will be provided for the successful candidate from our outstanding clinical staff.

25 hours per week
Main duties of the job:
- Undertake phlebotomy clinics
- Undertake specific HCA clinics as required including BP monitoring, Health checks, ECG, B12, Influenza/pneumonia vaccinations.
- Be responsible for day-to-day general treatment duties/stocking and cleaning of clinical areas and ordering supplies.
- Work with the nursing team to develop the service to meet the future needs of the practice in providing treatment, disease prevalence and health promotion services.
- Perform day-to-day duties normally expected of a HCA and report back to named staff.
- Maintain own skills and knowledge necessary to perform the job.
- Attend away days as necessary for mandatory training.
- Attend study days as necessary to update and increase knowledge and skills.

- Ear Syringing
- Assisting with Coils/Implants
- Assisting with Minor ops
- Ensure specimens are labelled and bagged ready for collection with the necessary paperwork completed.

Job responsibilities:
RESPONSIBLE TO: Practice Manager
MAIN PURPOSE: To assist medical personnel in the care of practice patients to include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education. The post will also include some limited administrative duties.
A uniform and name badge must be worn at all times, which will be supplied by the practice. They will act as a focal point of communication between patients, doctors, nurses and other members of the primary health care team.
GENERAL:
To maintain a safe and effective level of practice and to bring any deficits in training to the attention of the manager so these can be addressed. They will be required to act in a professional manner at all times and adhere to practice policies, protocols and guidelines.
Training:
Training requirements will be monitored by yearly appraisal. Personal development will be encouraged and supported by the practice. It is the individual's responsibility to remain up to date with recent developments.
Accountability:
Although accountable to the Partners of the practice through the Practice Manager as an employee, they are ultimately responsible for their own practice and must ensure that limitations are always acknowledged. Full training will be provided for any clinical procedures.
Administration:
All records need to be kept clearly and legibly. Claims are an important part of practice income and are a priority, needing to be made correctly and accurately. A great deal of this work will be done on the computer.
Meetings:
It may be necessary to attend various Practice meetings as requested. The only reason for not attending will be annual, study or sick leave. As well as the nursing team, the nursing assistant will work closely with reception and dispensary staff and will be expected to communicate and liaise with all other members of the Practice team.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Nursing:
- Flu/Pneumococcal, B12 immunisations
- BP monitoring
- CVDD
- Dressings and where appropriate suture removal
- ABPM
- Observations such as BMI, Height, Weight, foot pulses
- Health Promotion
- Ear Syringing
- Assisting with Coils/Implants
- Assisting with Minor ops
- Ensure specimens are labelled and bagged ready for collection with the necessary paperwork completed.
Administration and professional responsibilities:
- Participate on the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team
- Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients' notes on the computer system
- Ensure the clinical computer system is kept up to date with accurate details recorded
- Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient healthcare and registration with the practice
- Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports
Management of appointment system:
- Ensure total familiarity with all appointment systems including regular and incidental variations
- Monitor flow of patients into the waiting room ensuring the appointment system accurately reflects the arrival of patients
- Monitor effectiveness of the system and report any problems or variations to the Assistant Manager Receptionist
- Any other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post

- An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality
- An ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness, common sense and local knowledge, to respond to patients' enquiries and requests while adhering to practice limitations
- An understanding and acceptance of one's capabilities and awareness of own limitations
- Ability to work without direct supervision and determine own workload priorities
- Basic keyboard and computer skills
- Flexibility of working hours
- Will be required to do overtime from time to time
