Handelsbanken Plc’s finance department is responsible for statutory accounting and reporting, technical accounting, business/financial control, tax, and capital and liquidity planning and management. The in-house tax function is a small sub-department of finance, responsible for delivering and managing the UK’s tax strategy, operations, compliance and policies.
The Tax Manager will report direct to the UK Head of Tax, provide an additional point of contact for both HMRC and the business, and assist the Head of Tax with developing junior staff and high profile ad hoc projects. It is expected that the Tax Manager will want to further their career in tax, and be CTA qualified with previous solid (post qualification) experience gained with a top tier accountancy firm or at an in-house tax department. The role will be based in the London Head Office and the individual must be prepared to travel as required, both in the UK and occasionally to Sweden.
Main Responsibilities
- The Tax Manager will manage direct and international tax compliance and governance matters for the Handelsbanken group’s UK entities
- This includes preparation of all UK corporation tax returns, transfer pricing reports, R&D claims, disclosures for inclusion in the statutory accounts, bank levy calculations
- The Tax Manager will also assist the UK Head of Tax with annual SAO risk reviews, tax governance, drafting internal instructions, and ad hoc project work (corporate re-organisations, acquisitions etc)
- The Tax Manager will act as an additional point of contact for HMRC, external auditors, and for the business
- The Tax Manager is expected to keep up to date with relevant changes in tax legislation, regulations and best practice
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, and a willingness to travel to within the UK and to Sweden
- Operates in line with the Bank\’s Risk Management framework (including sub-frameworks) and relevant risk and compliance policies and procedures, ensuring appropriate and timely escalation of any concerns to their line manager.

- Strong professional competence and relevant experience in Tax
- A relevant post-graduate qualification and CTA qualified
- An excellent understanding of Tax
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to analyse, articulate and present complex issues clearly and concisely
- Professional standard of presentation skills in addition to attention to detail and an organised approach to work
- Ability to build strong professional relationships at all levels and represent Handelsbanken effectively
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with impact with people at all levels
- Integrity and discretion as well as the ability to work well under pressure
