Local Property Valuer - South

Overview

UK Credit has functional responsibility for credit operations in the UK, ensuring that the Bank’s credit policy, process and culture is fully implemented in the branch network. The Local Credit Team has responsibility and accountability for granting credit in their area and ensuring compliance with Handelsbanken\’s credit policy. The Local Property Valuer role provides oversight on property valuations for secured lending, including complex cases and specialist sectors.

The Local Property Valuer role is based in either London or Manchester, with flexible working arrangements discussed on request.

Main Responsibilities

• Be the primary contact within the local credit team regarding property valuations for secured lending, including complex or specialist cases
• Collaborate with local and UK credit teams and other UK functions on property valuations
• Develop and deliver property-related local training to credit experts and branches
• Stay up to date with changes to credit policy, collateral management policy and procedures, market or economic developments affecting valuations
• Provide subject matter expertise, monitoring and analysis for regulatory and policy-related instructions
• Work with UK Credit and other UK Departments to develop credit management information (MI) and training to increase visibility of credit risks
• Provide SME training and support to the operational credit team and branches on property valuation procedures and documentation using approved training materials
• Use property market analysis to support knowledge sharing and training
• Escalate emerging risks and identify trends within local geographic areas
• Ensure property valuation instructions and monitoring are embedded in branches, managing valuation risks (PRVM) and reporting
• Engage with external valuer firms to ensure they meet Bank requirements and terms of engagement
• Undertake regulatory reviews relating to RMCs to ensure timely, well-documented procedures
• Provide oversight on property valuations for secured lending, including high-risk cases for UK(M)CC and above
• Maintain data quality for property valuation information across systems to support reporting integrity
• Maintain appropriate control through dialogue with operational teams and follow-up routines
• Oversee implementation of instructions and escalate to Local Heads of Credit as necessary
• Ensure data quality related to property valuations is sufficient to support reporting
• Operate in line with the Bank\’s Risk Management framework and relevant risk and compliance policies

Ideal Candidate

• Understand and have experience of the UK property market
• High degree of integrity
• Chartered Surveyor (RICS) with qualifications and practical experience in valuation, preferably with a broad knowledge of the UK property market
• Diverse geographical knowledge across the UK with residential and commercial property experience
• Proactive and pragmatic working style with ability to work independently
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English
• Analytical mindset with attention to detail and good working knowledge of Word and Excel
