Job Introduction

At Handelsbanken UK, we are about to embark on an exciting Business Transformation, a cornerstone of which will be our IT modernisation journey. The Business Systems and IT Change department has identified the need for an experienced business analyst who will play an integral role in this journey. This position will reside within the payments area as we undertake a rationalisation and modernisation of our payments technology, including the replacement of our legacy platform with a brand new payment engine.

The successful candidate must have proven payments operations experience in a banking environment. They must be familiar with payments technologies, channels, processes, and payment types, including CHAPS, BACS, SEPA, Faster Payments, International SWIFT, Cheques and Cash. They will also be working across the latest payments industry regulations and standards. Furthermore, have experience of working with a modern payments platform provided by a third party.

Main Responsibilities

  • Requirements engineering: There will be a need to refine existing high-level requirements, used as part of a vendor-selection process, into technical solution requirements, suitable for development and implementation. This requirements work will also involve the elicitation, analysis and management of transitional requirements for the purpose of business-readiness activity.
  • Process design work; including the potential need to lead on, and drive, the Bank\’s target operating model in a payments function.
  • Advise on the business analysis work approach (see skills sections below), also demonstrating a hands-on approach within an agile delivery team.
  • Setting standards including business analysis governance and guidelines.
  • Stakeholder engagement and management, including owning stakeholder relationships where business analysis interaction is involved. This will include senior stakeholders, such as the Bank\’s C-suite.
  • Operates in line with the Bank\’s Risk Management framework (including sub-frameworks) and relevant risk and compliance policies and procedures, ensuring appropriate and timely escalation of any concerns to their line manager.

Ideal Candidate

  • Payments subject matter expertise : Experience working with payments technologies, channels, processes, and payment types, including CHAPS, BACS, SEPA, Faster Payments, International SWIFT, Cheques and Cash.
  • Requirements definition and management: Experience advising on the approach to requirements management within a project or programme but in an agile delivery team (see Agile working) able to work to the team\’s prescribed method. Experience defining the most appropriate requirements management life cycle methods and ensure the requirement can be traced in the design, build, test, tender and evaluation phases. Able to co-ordinate and review the prioritisation of requirements and engage in the negotiation of solutions to help meet programme objectives.
  • Business analysis planning and approach: Previous experience in using insight and metrics to inform the business analysis approach and explain business decisions clearly. Able to advise on the approach to identifying, investigating, analysing and communicating complex business problems and opportunities within a project or programme of work. Able to inform tactical decision making and help to define longer-term strategic plans. Experience recommending the approach to options analysis, feasibility assessment and operations, and can quantify potential business benefits. Ensure the proposed solution aligns with business goals and objectives, and business and user needs, and achieves the required outcomes and expected benefits.
  • Investigation and problem analysis: Experience in communicating clear definition of problem analysis and define the scope for business to overcome this. Able to clarify investment objectives and business benefits to be achieved by the change initiative and work closely with customers and stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of the business analysis work to ensure benefits are optimised and realised following implementation.
  • Business process improvement including BPMN: Experience in providing definition of business process improvements for products or services. Experience in identifying opportunities to improve business performance, within a project or programme. Prior experience leading the analysis, identification, design, prioritisation and implementation of process and business changes to improve business operations and services. Confidently can assess the feasibility of changes and recommend new approaches. Experience supporting the implementation of proposed business improvements. Prior experience in using BPMN (the Bank\’s standard in business modeling notation) and equally confident using MS Visio.
  • Feasibility assessment and business case development: Experience in defining the rationale for proposed business and IT change, generate, describe and evaluate the options to achieve the business requirement, and quantify and / or describe the investment objectives and predicted business outcomes.
