Senior Children's Residential Support Worker in Stoke-on-Trent

Children's Services Senior Support Worker Stoke on Trent, ST3 £14-£16.30 per hour (DOE)

My client is a well-known national Children's Residential Care Company that offers modern residential care for children, young people and adults. The home has been rated GOOD by Ofsted and works well with local authorities.

In this role you will deputise in the Deputy Manager’s absence and support other Support Workers.

• Lead and supervise a team of care staff in the children's residential home.
• Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to staff.
• Ensure the team adheres to policies, procedures and safeguarding regulations.
• Conduct staff meetings, appraisals and performance reviews.
• Support with staff rotas and shift planning.
• Ensure the wellbeing, safety and welfare of young people.
• Respond to incidents, safeguarding concerns or disclosures.
• Provide emotional and practical support to children, meeting their needs.
• Create and maintain care plans tailored to individual children.
• Encourage independence, life skills and positive behaviours.
• Support education, activities and social engagement.
• Address and manage challenging behaviours using de-escalation techniques.
• Maintain accurate records of care plans, daily logs and incidents.
• Ensure compliance with Ofsted regulations and Children’s Home Standards.
• Complete risk assessments and follow health and safety protocols.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with legislation and organisational policies.
• Participate in inspections and audits, providing evidence of good practice.
• Work with social workers, therapists, teachers and healthcare professionals.
• Attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings.

• NVQ Level 3/4 Residential Childcare, CYPW, Children & Young People or Health and Social Care.
• At least 2 years’ experience in a children's setting.
• Experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Safeguarding training and knowledge of child protection procedures.
• Empathy, patience and resilience with vulnerable children.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle challenging behaviours effectively.
