Teacher of Geography (Maternity cover)

The Geography Department is a lively and friendly environment where teachers and pupils build a positive working atmosphere. Colleagues are collegial in approach, sharing teaching resources and ideas. Pupils’ enthusiasm for Geography is encouraged by imaginative, varied and challenging courses at all levels, up to and including Oxbridge preparation.

The role is a maternity cover position to start in September 2026. The successful candidate will be committed to passing on their love of and expertise in Geography, maintaining high standards of achievement, and contributing to outstanding teaching practice across the department.

The Department provides a very friendly, non-competitive teaching environment, where collaboration is highly valued. Geography is taught as a discrete subject to all pupils in the First to Third Years (National Curriculum Years 7-9) during two 40-minute periods per week. In the Fourth and Fifth Years, pupils who opt for Geography follow the Edexcel IGCSE course during four taught periods per week.

Main Responsibilities include:

• To teach Geography throughout the age range (30 x 40-minute periods per week)
• To oversee and organise resources for each group of pupils
• To develop knowledge and understanding of the Geography curriculum
• To complete all student assessment requirements
• To maintain standards of discipline in line with School policies
• To contribute to the pastoral aspects of the School as a Form Tutor

Essential Criteria for the successful candidate:

• A good Geography related honours graduate from a leading university
• Excellent communication skills
• The ability to demonstrate outstanding teaching practice
• A professional, collaborative approach
• Commitment to continuing professional development

Desirable Criteria include:

• A higher degree or experience of educational research
• A teaching qualification and/or previous teaching experience
