About the Department
Hampshire Trust Bank has a strong growth forecast for the years ahead, having achieved strong growth over recent years, and becoming a data driven business is identified as a key success criteria for achieving those forecasts on a cost effective basis. The Bank has just made its first significant investment into becoming a data driven business and is in the process of deploying a new data platform, comprising of a Snowflake data warehouse and Tableau reporting and analysis platform, and a new data governance operation.
About the Role
The Bank is currently already undertaking a project (ODIN25) to redevelop its data warehouse, and requires support from a project management perspective, applying the Bank's transformation governance framework to the project and leading senior stakeholder engagement. The role also requires technical delivery expertise, as the Bank is looking at several technical developments to deliver in the next 6 months, which include both potential for new ETL technology but also proof of concepts regarding data observability solutions. The role sits at the intersection of data engineering, architecture, governance, and delivery, ensuring the project is technically sound, well controlled, and fully compliant. The working pattern for the role will be hybrid, with a minimum 50% of time spent in our London offices.
Key Responsibilities
- Support rollout, configuration, and embedding of the Data Observability tooling (e.g., Actian) covering monitoring, anomaly detection, schema drift, and pipeline health.
- Ensure that robust data quality checks are designed, implemented and maintained throughout the development lifecycle.
- Act as the senior technical escalation point for issue resolution across ETL, data platforms, and observability workflows.
- Embed ODIN25 governance frameworks across all workstreams, ensuring compliance with RACI, severity scoring, escalation, documentation, and readiness standards.
- Maintain ODIN25 governance artefacts including RAID, decision logs, action trackers, evidence logs, and quality gates.
- Ensure all activities align with Bank governance: Data Governance Forum, Data Committee, Change Governance, DPIA, InfoSec and architectural review processes.
- Oversee coordination of ODIN25 SIT, UAT and regression testing, ensuring technical test cases (ELT, DQ, performance) meet the programme's standards.
- Validate that test evidence meets governance requirements for quality, traceability and signoff.
- Ensure compliance with DPIA, security controls, data handling requirements and operational resilience obligations.
- Lead production readiness activities including cutover planning, triage structures, and hypercare arrangements.
- Act as the primary link across Engineering, Architecture, BI, Governance, Testing, Operations, Risk, and Transformation teams.
- Facilitate workshops, playback sessions, design walkthroughs and evidence reviews to ensure all teams remain aligned on scope, designs and delivery expectations.
- Provide clear and structured communication to senior stakeholders, surfacing decisions, risks and technical considerations.
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience in building & maintaining databases.
- Proven Data Warehouse Modelling experience (Kimball, 3NF etc.).
- Experience in delivering and embedding robust Data strategies.
- Analytical mind, critical thinker and problem solver.
- Experience with Snowflake, data vault, project management and delivery.
- Advanced SQL knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of modern data tools, including data observability, data catalogues, reporting etc.
- Clear communication and stakeholder management.
- Ability to lead & develop team, increasing skillset & knowledge base.
