We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join us as a Finance Officer within Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, working to provide a safer community for all.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to line manage the Area Finance Team (including the Travel Desk) and ensure their work assists with the smooth running of the Constabulary and OPCC’s operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all team members follow the prescribed procedures to process order requests.
  • Apply and maintain controls necessary to ensure accurate and timely work according to the agreed service standards.
  • Ensure purchases are made in line with policies, provide education where necessary, and maintain positive working relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Monitor the contract for collection of cash from Police premises and raise/escalate issues where necessary.
  • Maintain awareness of corporate and departmental equalities and health and safety policies and procedures, applying them in day‑to‑day duties.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (or accepted relevant equivalent qualification). Alternatively, part‑qualified with extensive relevant experience demonstrating the required level of knowledge and application of financial principles.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Good IT skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
  • Works well in a team.
  • Organised and able to prioritise activities, often to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to achieve 'right first time'.
  • Good follow‑up skills to be able to achieve pragmatic solutions within defined procedures.

Competencies at Level 2 (or as required) include courage, respect, empathy, and a commitment to public service. Candidates should be able to demonstrate these qualities and discuss their background and experience during the application process.
