As a Detention Officer you will be based in one of our Police Investigation Centres where you will support the custody suite and provide a high level of care and professionalism to those detained.

Responsibilities

  • Complete booking and intake procedures for detainees.
  • Collect fingerprints, photographs and DNA samples.
  • Record and secure detainees’ possessions.
  • Monitor detainees’ condition and behaviour throughout custody.
  • Assist with investigative procedures, including the preservation of evidence.
  • Maintain safety and security of all personnel within the custody suite.
  • Assist the custody sergeant with the release of detainees when required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: QCF Level 3 (A‑levels or equivalent) or work experience that demonstrates a comparable level.
  • Full manual driving licence.
  • Willingness and ability to work at any of the supported locations – Portsmouth, Southampton, Basingstoke or the Isle of Wight.

Training and Development

Successful candidates will undergo a six‑ to seven‑week training course (Monday‑Friday), covering all aspects of the role, the Criminal Justice System, police IT & systems, personal safety training and emergency first aid.

Employment Conditions and Compensation

  • Permanent, full‑time position, 37 hours per week based in Basingstoke.
  • Starting salary £30,333 per annum.
  • Shift allowance and weekend enhancement of approximately £800 (depending on shifts worked) added to the salary before tax per month.
  • Shift pattern will include evenings and weekends.
