The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.

This role is only open to applicants that currently work within an NHS Trust within the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System (HIOW ICS). Due to expansion of the services, we are looking for two new Cancer Support Workers within the Surgical Division, specifically in Urology and Colorectal. The successful candidate will work alongside Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists to register and monitor patients through My Medical Records.

Main duties of the job

The main purpose of the Cancer Support Worker role is to support patients who are able to self-manage and to assist them in navigating the complex health and social care system during and after cancer treatment (Patient Initiated Follow Up (PIFU)/Patient Risk-Stratified Follow Up (PSFU)) using The My Medical Records (MMR) platform. The post holder will be part of a wider network of Cancer Support Workers at HHFT but will work independently within the role's scope, under the guidance of the Clinical Nurse Specialist within the specific tumour group (e.g., breast, prostate, haematology, colorectal).

HHFT provides hospital services to around 570,000 residents in Hampshire and West Berkshire, along with specialist services for patients nationwide. We offer a full range of district hospital services across multiple locations.

Person specification

  • GCSE English Language and Mathematics (Grades A-C) or equivalent
  • Evidence of participation in learning and development courses
  • NVQ level 4

Experience and Knowledge

  • Understanding of the health and social care environment
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, non-verbal)
  • Experience in providing and receiving information to patients and carers
