Job Overview This is an exciting opportunity to join the ophthalmology department within Hampshire Hospitals. The department spans across 3 sites, with this role based at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire site. The facilities include outpatient clinics, day case theatres, minor ops rooms, lasers, injection rooms, and pre-assessment areas. The glaucoma service has a robust virtual screening program for follow-up patients. This post is for an ophthalmologist with a subspecialist interest in glaucoma, to lead and develop the glaucoma service at Basingstoke, ensuring excellent patient care. Department Details The department saw over 25,000 outpatient attendances in 2018/19 and nearly 5,000 inpatient and day case operations. Our consultants have strong general ophthalmology skills and subspecialty interests including medical retina, uveitis, anterior segment, oculoplastic, paediatric ophthalmology, and strabismus. Candidate Profile Subspecialist interest in glaucoma Enthusiastic and friendly clinician Experience in general ophthalmology and glaucoma subspecialty skills Passion for improving ophthalmology services Willing to work in a multidisciplinary team and support service and junior staff development Service Configuration Includes a dedicated Eye Day Case Unit at Basingstoke Hospital, community eye services, a specialised theatre at Andover War Memorial Hospital, and operating in day surgery units across sites.
