Hampshire Trading Standards is a regulatory body responsible for monitoring compliance with over 250 pieces of legislation to support a safe, fair and equitable trading environment and provide valuable support and trusted advice to residents and businesses in Hampshire. We are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Officer to join our Proactive Interventions Team.
What you’ll do:
- The primary role for this post will be to run our Environmental Team covering a broad scope of investigation and proactive work.
- You will be responsible for the oversight of the delivery of the service’s licensing requirements for petroleum and explosives, as well as a far wider reach into environmental aspects enforced by the service, including green washing, lettings and EPCs, energy claims etc.
- There will also be an expectation to grow the remit of the team to tackle harm in other areas covered by Trading Standards legislation.
- You will provide detailed advice on legislation, conduct inspections of businesses to ensure compliance with the law and ultimately take formal enforcement action in circumstances where significant alleged criminal offences have been committed.
- As a Senior Officer, you will have line management responsibilities and possess a strong demonstration of the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected from an officer of this level.
- The service is intelligence led which means there may be necessity for you to also deliver other aspects of Trading Standards work.
What we’re looking for:
- With relevant formal qualifications (DCATS, DCA etc.) or extensive proven experience within a regulatory remit, you will be equipped to tackle a new challenge.
- You will be organised and have flexibility to work occasional unsocial hours.
- Above all, you will be able to deal sympathetically with members of the public and businesses, while also being confident in your ability to handle difficult and challenging situations.
- You must be able to deal with a range of complex challenges requiring you to be methodical and utilise problem solving skills to identify practical solutions, based on sound judgement and reasoning.
- You will need to be well organised and motivated in order to successfully balance the expectations and requirements upon you and the service, as well as driving the work forward in continuous improvement to ensure we operate efficiently and effectively.
