We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join us as an Intelligence Development Officer, within a national policing unit working to ensure safer communities in the UK and around the world.

More about the role

Working within the Intelligence team at NaVCIS, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting either the NaVCIS Intelligence, Freight or Ports portfolios. Providing information, intelligence management, research development and administration functions. You will have a firm understanding in the handling of intelligence from a variety of confidential sources and additionally you will have the ability to recognise opportunities to develop and cultivate HUMINT for referral as suitable for CHIS recruitment status. You will have recent and relevant experience within an intelligence environment and experience of research. You will have excellent communication skills and be a good team player. A good level of I.T skills are required including making and using spreadsheets.

Candidates should note that this role may require occasional travel and involve overnight stays so access to a reliable system of transport is required. The post holder may need to work occasional unsocial hours to respond to operational demands.

About NaVCIS

The National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NaVCIS) is a national police unit, hosted by Hampshire Constabulary but based near Coventry. We work closely with partner agencies across law enforcement and the private sector in order to better understand and mitigate the threats posed by vehicle theft. Motor finance fraud and associated offences impacts upon victims and communities, the national economy and demands placed upon law enforcement agencies. Through effective partnership working NaVCIS seeks to prevent offences of motor finance fraud by our subject matter experts investigating, developing and sharing specialist intelligence to support law enforcement investigations to prevent crime and disrupt organised criminality. The successful applicant will support the senior leadership team in protecting the UK from vehicle finance fraud, providing assistance to colleagues in the NaVCIS Investigation Team. The role holder may be required to visit various locations throughout the UK, this may also require overnight stays and therefore needs to have the ability to travel as necessary. There may be a requirement to work unsocial hours occasionally to respond to operational demands for which the appropriate recompense will be paid.

Substantial experience in evidence gathering and intelligence work due to the complex nature and responsibilities of the role. An excellent working knowledge of criminal law and the criminal justice system, CPIA, RIPA, CHIS code of practise, covert intelligence and investigation. Excellent and evidenced report writing and communication skills e.g. the production of clear, concise and accurate records, letters and reports as well as verbal delivery and presentation to diverse audiences. To be computer/keyboard literate and a competent keyboard user. A working knowledge of vehicle telematics.
