Make a real difference in your local community as a Library Team Assistant at Leigh Park Library, part of the new Best Start Family Hub initiative. This is a varied, people-focused role, combining excellent customer service and library activities with community outreach – promoting services in schools, community centres, and other venues. You’ll also work closely with partners, welcoming them into the library and supporting initiatives that strengthen local connections. What you’ll do
- Create a welcoming, inclusive space and help customers of all ages access library services.
- Promote Best Start services in the community, including presenting to large groups such as school assemblies.
- Work with partners, welcoming them and their clients to the library and supporting them in delivering their services.
- Help customers build digital confidence and support with admin tasks including payments, calls, and stock management.
- Lead activities like Rhyme Time and Story Time and promote reading initiatives.
- Carry out manual tasks such as moving furniture, lifting boxes, and setting up spaces for activities.
What we’re looking for
- Experience in a busy, customer-facing role with a friendly, inclusive approach.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with confidence speaking to large groups and engaging diverse audiences.
- Resilience to handle challenging interpersonal situations calmly and professionally.
- Good digital skills and willingness to learn new systems and use social media to engage with the community.
- Physically able to carry out manual tasks such as moving stock and setting up spaces.
