The position offers the unique level of support that comes with working within our well-respected team and Hampshire County Council generally. You will be able to develop your legal skills through the practical application of your legal knowledge and gain valuable legal experience with involvement in a wide range of contentious and non-contentious employment law matters.
What you’ll do
You will take responsibility for a varied caseload and provide support to more senior fee-earners. Typical matters include advice on disciplinary and grievance procedures, capability and sickness absence, TUPE, redundancy, discrimination, settlements and dismissal. You will provide clear, timely and pragmatic legal advice and representation to the County Council’s directorates, and to external public sector clients, undertake legal research and deliver training. You will also hold a caseload of employment tribunal matters.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for an in-house Legal Adviser to join our Employment Law Team. You must be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive who is eligible to hold a practising certificate for England & Wales. You will be successful in the role if you are able to demonstrate sound legal skills and judgment, a pragmatic solution focused approach, strong client relationship and communication skills, ability to work both with colleagues and also on your own initiative and within a strong team with a collaborative approach, resilience and motivation and ability to prioritise effectively to meet deadlines. This role would be well suited to a newly qualified legal adviser or someone wishing to change specialism.
You may be required to visit other locations within Hampshire, and therefore need to have the ability to travel, as necessary. Display screen equipment/laptop will be supplied.
