An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Animal Care tutor to join our Education team at Hampshire County Council. Are you looking for a challenging and diverse role working as part of a friendly and supportive team, with an opportunity to make a real difference?
The Education team at Staunton Farm is part of Hampshire County Council’s Countryside Service. It is a unique site offering visitors a chance to meet a range of animals, explore the walled gardens and Victorian glasshouse before adventuring into the 1,000 acre listed Regency parkland. Staunton Farm is a busy site with over 150,000 visitors each year. The site has a dedicated education team who deliver educational sessions to over 10,000 school children each year.
Staunton Farm has been providing accredited Animal Care Courses specifically for 14–16-year-old students as an alternative to G.C.S.E’s for 10 years. As an accredited vocational centre for Pearson, we offer a Level 2 BTEC First in Animal Care to local schools. The course is designed and delivered by the full time Animal Care Tutor with support from both the farm and education teams. The course supports up to 16 students in each group and provides them with work related learning opportunities. Typically, the students will undertake routine animal care tasks in the morning, before a theory session or demonstration in the afternoon. Students attend Staunton Farm 1 day per week for 2 years. We have excellent relations with our local schools and pride ourselves on 100% pass rate.
We are looking for an upbeat and flexible person to join our team on a temporary basis providing maternity cover. You will be responsible for ensuring students learn the relevant information as outlined in the scheme of work. The course delivery is flexible and you will have an opportunity to input into the content of the course. Typically, you will teach the animal care BTEC 3 days a week with our existing groups from local schools. You will also be expected to deliver informal animal care sessions as part of our Junior Ranger Group during school holidays, possibly weekends or after school. You will be responsible for planning, administration and advertising any informal sessions. You will be allocated preparation time for each group you are asked to teach.
We are looking for a tutor who can relate to students whilst managing group behaviour. Applicants should have relevant Animal Care qualifications or industry experience, although applicants without this may still be considered. You should be an excellent communicator and have outstanding organisational skills.
