Join our Team! Are you passionate about protecting information and leading good information governance? We’re looking for a qualified Data Protection Officer to carry out the role of Data Protection Manager. As Data Protection Manager you’ll be experienced and knowledgeable and be able to enhance how we handle personal data across Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service ensuring the Service remains compliant and builds trust and integrity.

The Role: As our Data Protection Manager, it is expected that you have held a position in the statutory role of Data Protection Officer. You’ll be the go to expert for all things data privacy. Your expertise will ensure we remain compliant, transparent, and confident in how we manage and protect data, both on and off the incident ground. You’ll support teams to embed best practice in their day-to-day work. You’ll demonstrate excellent leadership skills to manage the team. This 12 month fixed term contract for maternity cover, is an exciting opportunity to influence organisation-wide culture, drive continual improvement, and help us raise the bar on transparency, trust, and accountability.

As our Data Protection Manager you’ll:

  • Advise and support stakeholders across the organisation in relation to data protection and information governance
  • Lead on development of procedures and policy
  • Ensure processes are in place to facilitate FOI/EIR and data breaches
  • Lead on the development of Artificial Intelligence governance
  • Maintain and evolve the Information Asset Register
  • Champion high standards, innovation, inclusion, and our Core Values - ensuring they are lived and embedded across everything we do
  • Lead a team of Information Governance Officers

About You: You’re an information governance professional with extensive experience holding the statutory role of a Data Protection Officer and thorough knowledge regarding data protection legislation. You’ll have excellent communication skills, a pragmatic practical approach and the ability to advise and influence.

What We're Looking For:

  • Qualified as a Data Protection Officer
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of data protection principles and associated legislation and information governance such as Freedom of Information Act requirements and Records Management
  • Line Management experience within a business environment
  • Confidence to use own initiative and complete and prioritise work independently
  • Experience of working at a corporate level, ideally in the public sector
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • The ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
