About Us

The Contracts & Procurement Legal Team at Westminster City Council provides legal services to local authority clients, including Westminster City Council and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. We assist with a wide range of legal situations and requests for advice, including public sector procurement and commercial contracts. The council supports professional development, including the SQE qualification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support lawyers with drafting legal documentation and preparing contract engrossments.
  • Conduct legal research, write reports and proof‑read documents.
  • Develop and maintain efficient administrative systems for the team, ensuring compliance and driving improvements.
  • Serve a routine caseload, understanding public sector legal service requirements to best assist clients.
  • Work effectively under deadlines; manage multiple pressing matters simultaneously.
  • Communicate with clients in person and over the phone, handling confidential and sensitive correspondence.

Key Qualifications

  • Legal degree or equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience preparing contract engrossments (services contracts and construction contracts).
  • Experience in legal research or report preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines.
  • Previous experience in a local government legal practice preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and case‑management systems.
