About the role

Hammersmith & Fulham Council are committed to investing in their residents and we are currently creating a wide range of high-quality Apprenticeships that combine working in a great job, comprehensive training and development opportunities and a competitive salary. The council has a major role to play, both in tackling inequality and in creating new opportunities for our residents and our staff. You will be part of a small and busy team, supporting us to achieve this vision.

Our Building services engineering service and maintenance engineer apprenticeship is a 48-month programme designed to develop technical, organisational, and communication skills. You’ll gain hands-on experience across the Council while working towards a Level 3 qualification, with one day per week at college.

The Job - Working in the Facilities Management team in the Council you will:

  • Support planned maintenance and repairs across our buildings.
  • Monitor systems for safety and efficiency, while developing expertise in electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
  • Learn to operate building and energy management systems to optimize performance.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, colleagues, contractors, and other council teams to deliver excellent service.

Training and Development – Within your role you will:

  • Join a personal and professional development programme that will involve a series of varied development activities and events throughout your time with the Council.
  • We appreciate and value our employees and recognise the importance of a motivated and supported workforce. We will support your development through the activities mentioned above and through the ongoing support of your manager and a mentoring programme.

In addition to the competitive salary and excellent annual leave package the organisation offers a wide range of benefits such as: a beneficial pension scheme, tax efficient childcare vouchers, cycle schemes, discounts at Vodaphone and local discounts from restaurants and shops.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council recruit as much for attitude as we do experience; therefore, we will expect our applicants to be enthusiastic, keen to learn and adaptable to change which are some of the key skills we will look for at the interview process.

Moving on

After you have successfully completed your Apprenticeship, you will have gained valuable workplace experience and attained a professional qualification which will improve your chances of finding work either within the Council or with another employer or help you move on to a higher level apprenticeship elsewhere. You will have networked across the Council and be aware of the internal job market during your time with us and we will provide support on your approach to the wider job market as part of your development programme.

To apply for this Apprenticeship, you must:

  • Be a Hammersmith & Fulham resident or care leaver aged 16+ who has lived in the UK.
  • Have lived in the UK for the past 3 years (as part of the funding requirement).
  • Not currently be qualified in Building services engineering service and maintenance engineer L3 or above.
  • Currently not undertaking any other formal form of study (e.g. college or university course).

Please ensure that you fully answer the mandatory questions at the end of the application form as this is what the recruiting managers will be using to shortlist your application. You should use your previous experiences at school, college, work or in your personal life to give detailed and relevant examples when asked. Uploading a CV and/or a personal statement is optional, but these will not be considered when assessing your job application.
