Reporting to the Director of Governance, the Head of Business Management and Governance will manage the Governance function and have a broad remit in ensuring the corporate governance framework and processes of the organisation are effective and well run.

Main duties of the job

The detailed responsibilities are set out in the job description, with the minimum required application criteria contained in the person specification. The post holder will be responsible for leading the operational running of Corporate Governance and Business functions of the Integrated Care Board (ICB), ensuring the organisation operates to the highest standards of probity, transparency, and accountability. The post holder will establish, embed, and maintain the highest levels of corporate governance across the organisation and act as an expert advisor to the Director of Corporate Governance, Executive Team, and Board of Directors. The role ensures that all corporate affairs are undertaken in accordance with statutory and legislative requirements, national guidance, and the applicable regulatory framework. The post holder will act as the Data Protection Officer for the ICB.

Specialist professional knowledge qualifications and experience are required to undertake this role. This will sometimes include distressing circumstances and requires excellent experience of managing and communicating complex information with the public. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the Health & Safety agenda is delivered across the ICB and act as the ICB competent person.

Person specification

Knowledge, Training and Experience

  • Educated to Masters degree level or equivalent qualification or equivalent experience of working at a similar level in specialist area
  • Significant evidence of continued professional development in specialist area
  • Able to present information and reports in an accurate and confident manner to the Board of Directors, Executive team and all levels of the organization, deliver presentations and run workshops
  • A good understanding of the health and social care environment and the roles and responsibilities within it and the NHS generally
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Experience of operating in a complex organisation, leading on a portfolio area and building credible relationships across an organisation
  • Governance/chartered secretary qualification

  • The ability to build trusted relationships and inspire the confidence of the Director of Corporate Governance
  • The ability to manage and develop a team, providing supportive encouragement and motivating the team to work together to achieve objectives
