To work with patients under the supervision and guidance of a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, implementing programmes of care for individuals and groups with communication and swallowing difficulties in various hospital and community settings.

To provide administration and clerical support for SLTs within the adult service.

To create and develop therapy tools and resources as requested.

Our SLT service supports adult clients (aged 16+) with acquired communication or swallowing disorders, primarily within adult neurology, but also including other acquired conditions. The service collaborates with teams such as the Home Enteral Nutrition team (HEN), Early Supported Discharge Teams (ESD), Snowdon Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (SNRU), Kite Unit (Neuropsychiatric Ward), and the Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team. We have close links with the Adult Community SLT service in Portsmouth and University Hospital Southampton. Our goal is to enable clients to communicate, eat, and drink safely and satisfactorily, minimizing risks.

Applicants should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a positive attitude towards self-directed learning, and proficiency in information technology. Experience working with vulnerable adults in health or social care settings is essential. The role involves carrying out swallow and communication screens under supervision and providing care programmes for swallowing and communication management.
